Work while studying

Immigration through education is a relatively common and well-proven method for settling in Canada. Of course, the education pathway is not quick or cheap, but it is reliable and quite popular. Obtaining an internationally recognized qualification significantly contributes to personal and professional growth.
Work while studying

If you go to a Canadian college or university, you can offset some of your expenses by working while studying. You can work up to 24 hours a week while studying and up to 40 hours a week during winter and summer vacations or spring break.

In Canada, the hourly minimum wage ranges from C$15 to C$19, depending on the province or territory (as of June 2025). For example, in Ontario, the minimum wage is CA$17.20 per hour, in Alberta it is CA$15 per hour, and in British Columbia it is CA$17.85 per hour. Thus, an international student, even working at minimum wage, can earn up to CA$1,650 per month in Ontario, CA$1,440 in Alberta, and CA$1,700 in British Columbia while studying.

It is extremely important to strictly comply with all conditions and restrictions on work during study in order to qualify for a post-graduate work permit after completing the study program.
